Critics have shared their first reactions to the Minecraft adaptation, and they are extremely positive — the film is called perfect for family viewing, praising the acting, and comparing it to such cult films as «Jumanji» and «Napoleon Dynamite».
«Amazing! This is a little gem. I assumed I was outside the target audience, but this is something really sharp, unconventional and fun. Video game movie with DNA “Napoleon Dynamite”», — Ash Crossan, ScreenRant.
«The Minecraft movie works in every way imaginable. It’s extremely charming and a perfect family movie. Jack Black and Jason Momoa are at the height of their craziness and give, for me personally, some of their best performances in recent years. Recommended», — E.J. Moreno, Flickering Myth.
«Minecraft — is 100% what you expect from this movie. Jack Black and Jason Momoa present a Jumanji style comedy. The visuals are perfectly recreated and there are some interesting references to the game (and cameos)», — screenwriter Chris Gallardo.
«Minecraft should become a cult classic, like Napoleon Dynamite and Supernacho. Jared Hess has put his unusual, strange, excessive and sometimes silly creativity into the movie. It may not be a good movie… but it’s a fun one critic Zach Pope.
However, there were exceptions to this stream of praise:
«Minecraft — this is by far the worst movie I’ve seen in years. It’s not interesting in the slightest, except for Jennifer Coolidge, who must be bending over backwards trying to keep this mess together. Terrible plot and script», — Jasmine Valentine, Dexerto.
Minecraft is based on the game of the same name, developed and published by Mojang Studios in 2011, and tells the story of a group of misfits (Jason Momoa, Daniel Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen) who suddenly find themselves in a game world and have to complete a series of tasks to save it and get home. Accompanying them in this is the character Steve, played by Jack Black (although he used to play the role of a talking pig).
Earlier, the film’s director Jared Hess, who is actually known as the director and screenwriter of the aforementioned comedy «Napoleon Dynamite», confirmed Varietythat the film adaptation is not a canon.
«We are not official history. We do not canonize anything. We are just one of a million stories».
Minecraft will be released in Ukrainian cinemas this week, on April 3.
