ASRock just cleaned a damaged motherboard for AMD chips — it works

The advice to clean everything often works when it comes to technology. ASRock was able to restore the functionality of a user’s damaged AMD AM5 motherboard with a simple cleaning.

ASRock has released a second BIOS update that addresses boot issues and possible processor damage on its AM5 motherboards. In a blog post, the manufacturer shared an interesting experience that perhaps shows a greater role for users in the recent troubles with AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D boards and chips.

The company has restored a motherboard that allegedly burned out on a user, without actually making any fixes. ASRock simply removed the debris from the processor socket and ran the board with the original BIOS. Despite the fact that the socket was not physically repaired, the board, according to the company, successfully booted up and passed extensive stress testing.

It is not reported if the original processor demonstrated on Reddit is still working. Modern CPU connectors have many pins dedicated to power and ground, so missing a few of them may not be a big deal. The video posted by the user shows visible socket damage, but it may not be that bad.

In the same post ASRock introduces the final version of BIOS 3.20 for its AM5 motherboards, which includes memory compatibility improvements. The update should address common boot issues experienced by many ASRock AM5 motherboards.

The effort to fix this particular board is in direct response to reports of one of the Ryzen 7 9800X3Ds on the ASRock motherboard failing The photo «socket damage» on the board fixed by ASRock seems to be identical to the motherboard from the message. When this happened, many people immediately started talking about user error. But it’s unclear how exactly the garbage got into the socket — maybe the user already got it out of the box?

After first «burnt» 9800X3D ASRock moderators on Reddit have created a mega-tread of more than 40 Reddit posts with complaints about allegedly «dead» processors Ryzen 9000 series (mainly 9800X3D). The main problem was the inability to boot the system.
