The Oscar-winning western comedy «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood» will get a sequel from Netflix — Quentin Tarantino wrote the script but gave the direction to David Fincher.
The film has no official title yet, but it is known that Brad Pitt will reprise his role of stuntman Cliff Booth, which brought him «Oscar» — and it is confirmation of rumors about the actor’s potential collaboration with Fincher. In the past, the duo has released such hits as «Seven», «Fight Club», and «The Mysterious Case of Benjamin Button».
The project is unique — not only in that one famous director is making a sequel to another famous director’s film, but also because it has taken over streaming. Sony Pictures released «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood» in theaters in 2019, but Tarantino had a unique deal that kept the key rights to the film for him.
Potentially, the story behind the sequel «Once Upon a Time in Hollywood» — is the script of the canceled Tarantino’s tenth and last film under the working title «Film Critic». Why? Because there were rumors that Brad Pitt will appear in itand will play «some version» of his character Cliff.
Insider Jeff Snyder (via World of Reel) writes that Leonardo DiCaprio will also appear in the film in a cameo role; Margot Robbie has also expressed her willingness to return.
The estimated budget of the film is — $200 million, and filming is scheduled for the summer of 2025 in California.
As for Fincher, the director recently extended its contract with Netflix until 2027 and has at least four different projects in various stages of development, including the US version of «Squid Game». David has previously released two streaming films: the biopic about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz «Munk» (2020) and the thriller «Killer» (2023).
