Rumors about Half-Life 3 are gaining momentum after new leaks from Valve’s internal systems about optimization.
Apparently, some unannounced game — probably the long-awaited sequel to the cult series — has entered the optimization stage, which is usually the final step before release. The information was found by Gabe Voller is a well-known detective in the Half-Life community who scrutinizes any traces of future Valve releases.
In his new video, he talks about the codename «HLX», which appears in the company’s internal files. The project was mentioned in the Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2 files, as well as in the Source 2 developer console. According to Voller, the files contain the hlx, hlxaudio, hlxartists groups, as well as teams related to game optimization. This may mean that Valve is already bringing the project to the perfect technical state before testing or even a future announcement.
In addition, we found:
- Dynamic navigation grid — a hint of complex AI enemy and NPC systems
- Improved hair system — a new level of graphics for characters is possible
- Deformable props — more interactive objects and physics
Half-Life 3 or a new spin-off?
Valve has not officially confirmed the development of Half-Life 3, and there is a chance that HLX may turn out to be another project, for example, a new VR experiment like Half-Life: Alyx. Nevertheless, the fact that the game is already at the optimization stage makes fans hopeful: perhaps we will finally get a classic story sequel.
Some sources also suggest that HLX is already undergoing internal testing among employees and their families — this is another important sign that the game is close to release. Given these findings, some insiders, including Tyler McVicker suggest that Valve may present the project in 2025. However, Gabe Voller believes that this is too optimistic a forecast — the optimization phase can last quite a long time.
Whatever it is – Half-Life 3 or a new spin-off – fans of the series have clearly got another reason to discuss it. Previous leaks about code analysis and data from the actress’s resume hinted at the development of games, while others talked about testing last year.
