Jason Momoa has officially confirmed his return to «Dune 3», so we can expect a cameo of the character from the previous part.
If Momoa started the first one — we will remind you that his character Duncan Idaho died in the first part. The audience did not know that his story would not end there, unlike the readers. Fans of Frank Herbert’s books know that in the universe «Dunes» death is not always the ending.
The actor made a statement about his character on the TODAY show. And he doesn’t seem to be too worried about the fact that he has revealed a plot point:
«I’m making a comeback. Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing like Game of Thrones, you know what I mean? If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right? Yeah, there’s going to be… I’m going to be coming back», — the actor said.
How can Duncan Idaho come back?
If you’ve seen «Dune», you know that Duncan Idaho died holding off the Sardaukars so that Paul and his mother could escape. But his story doesn’t end in the books.
In «Dune: The Messiah», he returns in the form of a ghol, a clone created from his cells. This technology belongs to the mysterious Tleilax sect, which has not yet been shown in films. Gholas are not just copies of dead people, but creatures that can receive the memories of the original under certain circumstances. So, «Dune 3» (if we follow the book canon) should introduce us to Duncan 2.0.
The filming «Dune 3» is to start this summer. There is no official premiere date yet, but, the movie is likely to be released in 2026 or 2027, considering the work schedule of film director Denis Villeneuve.
In the meantime, Jason Momoa will be seen in Minecraft. He plays Garrett Harrison, who is stuck in a pixelated world, and will be joined by Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, and Daniel Brooks. The premiere is scheduled for April 3, 2025.
