Lionsgate CEO Adam Fogelson officially announced the development of «John Wick 5» at CinemaCon and confirmed the return of Keanu Reeves to the lead role — despite the seeming death of the character in the previous film.
Longtime franchise director Chad Stahelski will return to the fold, along with producers Bezil Ivanyk and Erica Lee.
«Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica wouldn’t have come back if they didn’t have something to say with these characters — truly phenomenal and fresh», — said Vogelson. «We’re looking forward to seeing where our journey takes us».
The John Wick series of films started in 2014, with Keanu Reeves taking on the role of the titular hitman who, after retirement, cannot say goodbye to the underworld. The fourth film was released in theaters in 2023 and grossed $440 million (almost half of the franchise’s total earnings), and the story ended with Ian McShane’s Winston and Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King standing by the grave with Vic’s name written on it. Interestingly, Reeves himself has repeatedly stated that the story of his character got the perfect endingand he does not plan to «wear the black suit again».
We remind you that on June 6, the movie action movie «Ballerina» — prequel «John Wick» starring Ana de Armas (Reeves is also in the business), additionally develop series spinoff «John Wick: Under the High Table», which is being produced by Keanu and Stahelski.
