On the eve of the Minecraft movie premiere, actors Jason Momoa and Jack Black told Comicbook about their favorite games — and, interestingly, Mojang Studios’ project was not on the list.
Black said that he actually «lived» in Red Dead Redemption 2 during the pandemic, where he played more than 400 hours.
«It wasn’t a game, it was a way of life. I played 400 hours, which is a lot, but I have no regrets. It’s beautiful there, the world is incredible», — the actor says.
Instead, Jason Momoa said that «had never heard of this game», to which Black replied with surprise:
«Dude, you’ve never heard of Rockstar Games? These guys are artists. You have to play it, it will change your life. If you have to pick one game, it’s».
Momoa later explained that he had very limited gaming experience due to his addiction. However, he recalled his experience in the iconic Capcom Street Fighter franchise, noting that his favorite characters were Ryu and Blanka.
Interestingly, the Mojang project was not mentioned in the interview, despite the fact that the whole conversation was originally organized as a marketing event for the premiere of the Minecraft film adaptation. At the same time, Black, as an avid gamer, did not ignore the sandbox: earlier, Torfi’s senior director of original content, Frans Olafsson, said that the actor played more than 100 hours of Minecraft during his downtime on set:
«He was just manic, hoarding things in mines, looking for lapis lazuli because he liked the sound of the word. He kept saying: “Can I talk about lapis lazuli in the movie?”».
Black played the main character in the Minecraft movie Steve (although initially he was given the role of a talking pig), while Momoa joined a group of misfits consisting of two adults and teenagers who suddenly find themselves in a game world and are forced to save it. Also starring Daniel Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge.
Minecraft will be released in Ukrainian cinemas next week, on April 3.
