On the ASRock channel in Reddit has already collected 107 reports of AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors failing. There has also been a report of the affected Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
Most of the 9800X3D malfunction reports come from ASRock motherboard owners, but in most cases, the motherboards are not damaged. Over a month ago ITC.ua wrote about this list — it had more than 40 processors at the time. It also contains a small part of messages from owners of ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte boards.
A quick analysis of the collected statistics shows that most processor failures occurred shortly after purchase, and in some cases they literally «died» half an hour later. It’s still hard to say what exactly is going on: in some cases, these are actually burned out processors, but in others, the processors showed no signs of physical damage, and the motherboards worked with other similar chips.
In some cases, the Ryzen 9800X3D crashed twice. Although some users reported Ryzen 9800X3D crashing after enabling EXPO memory profiles or manually overclocking the CPU, there were cases where users did not touch anything in the BIOS with the same result.
This weekend, the first AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D was reported to have failed — it happened again on an ASRock motherboard, Pro RS X870 with the latest BIOS. The owner decided to return the goods to the seller, as it had not yet been 14 days since the purchase.
ASRock is trying to understand and fix the cause of the problem. The company says the problem is a memory compatibility issue and releases a new version of the BIOS to eliminate it. She also demonstrated restoring a damaged motherboard that was simply cleaned. However, it seems that new problems with the 9000X3D processors continue to occur.
