The Ukrainian studio Frogwares is not only actively working on The Sinking City 2, but is also preparing a remaster of the first part on Unreal Engine 5.
The game will get updated graphics, new effects, and improved performance. The main thing is that owners of the original will get the upgrade for free. The Sinking City was first released in 2019 was developed on Unreal Engine 4 and told the story of a private detective, Charles Reed, who arrived in the flooded city of Oakmont to deal with his nightmares. Six years after its release, Frogwares decided to give the game a new lease on life with UE5 technologies.
The remaster promises significant visual improvements:
- Completely updated lighting
- Added parts and objects
- Textures in 4K
- Improved reflections — water and wet surfaces will be more realistic
- Support for DLSS, FSR and TSR
- Photo mode
The release date of the remaster is still unknown, but it will definitely appear on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is not yet known about Nintendo Switch. Owners of the game on the old generation of consoles will not receive the update. But those who have already purchased The Sinking City on supported platforms will be able to upgrade to the new version for free.
Frogwares invited fans to take part in the creation of the remaster. To do this, you need to write down the word «yes» in any interpretation and send it to the developers. 100 random entries will become part of a singing choir in the game dedicated to the fictional god Yog-Sotút. The names of all participants will be in the final credits.
At the same time, Frogwares is finishing a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for The Sinking City 2, which received a gameplay trailer. The sequel is expected to change the focus from investigations to battles and exploration. The campaign will end on April 4 and has already exceeded its initial goal and has already raised over UAH 18 million. Perhaps the game will be released in 2025.
