Hogwarts Legacy won’t be more magical — Warner Bros. has canceled the unannounced DLC.
The studio has decided to cancel the expansion, which was developed by Avalanche Software together with Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham and Suicide Squad studio). DLC should have added «new storylines» and been released alongside Hogwarts Legacy: Definitive Edition — the version previously called «director’s cut». Fans still won’t be able to see the story arc about one of the game’s companions, which was cut out at the development stage.
The main reason for refusing additional content is doubts that DLC will be large enough to justify its cost. The report states that the studio was not sure whether there was enough content to prevent players from feeling like they were overpaying.
This decision fits into the overall picture of what is happening with the gaming division of Warner Bros. Recently, the company has closed several studios and abandoned new projects. In particular, Wonder Woman game was canceled, and Monolith studio was liquidated along with it, which developed it. WB is also closing Player First Games (which worked on the fighting game MultiVersus, which will no longer be supported), and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has failed.
Although it is worth recognizing that Hogwarts Legacy remains one of the biggest hits, Warner Bros. but failed to save their gambling business. Players will not be able to see the DLC and the «director’s cut» version, but the company is already openly talking about plans for a sequel.
