Text-to-speech (TTS) is a type of assistive technology that allows you to sound out digital text. With the touch of a button or the touch of a finger, TTS can take words on a computer or other digital device and convert them into sound. TTS has come a long way in the past few years. Microsoft, Google and Amazon have invested in developing text-to-speech as part of their AI work. We're talking about systems like Amazon Alexa or Google Home - they take text and speak it out loud. While the simpler text-to-speech conversion may seem robotic, the development of neural language means that users can now convert text-to-speech conversions close to the natural sound of the human voice.

Standard TTS voices use concatenative synthesis. In fact, this method combines a series of sounds into a sentence. What it fails to do, however, is add resonance and pitch. Deep neural networks, on the other hand, are used to overcome the limitations of traditional text-to-speech systems in matching accent and intonation patterns in spoken speech, called prosody, and in synthesizing speech units into computer voice.

It is best to keep text to voice files short. This makes it easier when downloading and also finding previous recordings. Capella Speech has been set so that you can preview a maximum of 50 words. Once you have previewed the voice you can then either edit it or synthesize it to a file.
