Starting today, all eight episodes of the first season of Devil May Cry are available on Netflix — without Ukrainian dubbing, but with subtitles.
Devil May Cry — is an adult urban fantasy animated series that revives the popular Capcom video game franchise and brings the famous demon hunter back to TV screens. The series is not a direct continuation of the games’ story, but rather reimagines the universe in a new, distinct timeline: while familiar characters such as Dante, Lady, and Sparda appear, the show introduces White Rabbit — an antagonist previously seen only in the unfinished Devil May Cry 3 manga.
«When a mysterious villain plans to open the gates to hell, the only hope for saving the world is a devilishly attractive demon hunter», — from the official synopsis.
Adi Shankar, known for his work on Castlevania, directed the adaptation, while Johnny Yong Bosch (Dante), Scout Taylor-Compton (Lady), and Hong Li (White Rabbit) lent their voices to the characters. The late Kevin Conroy voiced Vice President Baines — a character created specifically for the adaptation, and Chris Coppola plays Enzo Ferrino, a strange information broker.
The series will also feature a diverse musical score with a mix of classic hits and tracks created specifically for the show — including Evanescence’s new song Afterlife.
«Devil May Cry is not without its flaws, including a terrible computer graphics experience, bad jokes, and predictable characters. Still, Adi Shankar and Studio Mir create a fun adaptation of the video game, and the epic finale very effectively teases an even stranger second season», — from the review ICN.
Netflix has not confirmed the renewal, but Shankar has already said that he plans to create several unique seasons for the show, given that the franchise offers a lot of material for inspiration.
